India: Indigenous Day, National Youth Sunday marked in West Bengal

Don Bosco Catholic Church, Kalyani, observed a joyful celebration of Adivasi Divas (indigenous day) and National Youth Sunday in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal on August 20.

Father Anil Toppo, SDB, from Don Bosco Bandel, presided over the morning mass.

The celebratory mass was made even more special with the presence of Father Arvind Xalxo, SDB, and Deacon Biswajit Mondal.

About 200 Catholics, mainly from the Adivasi community of the parish, participated in Mass, coming together to commemorate the occasion.

During his homily, Father Toppo illuminated the significance of the Adivasi Divas celebration within the context of the Christian faith.

Following the mass, a brief cultural program was organized, adding a vibrant touch to the day's festivities. This program helped emphasize the cultural richness and diversity of the event.

In recognition of National Youth Sunday, a thought-provoking seminar was arranged for the parish's young members.

Father Arvind Xalxo, SDB, who is in charge of the Nitika Don Bosco Catechetical and Media Center in Calcutta, led the seminar, which had the theme "World of Social Media Culture."

Engaging the attendees with insightful discussions, the seminar attracted the participation of 70 energetic and enthusiastic youths.

As the seminar ended, attendees were treated to lunch. A brief meeting and Father Ujjol Mondal, SDB, the parish priest, offering thanks marked the event's closing moments.

The joint celebration of Adivasi Divas and National Youth Sunday at Don Bosco Catholic Church, Kalyani, not only fostered a sense of unity among the faithful but also provided a platform for reflection, learning, and cultural enrichment. - Santos Digal
