India: 300 Children receive First Holy Communion in a blessed celebration in Kurnool Diocese
On Saturday, December 28, 2024, the Diocese of Kurnool, along with St. George Church in Kosigi and Carmel Matha Church in Sunkeswari, rejoiced as 300 children received their First Holy Communion.
The grand ceremony took place at the Mount Carmel High School Campus in Kosigi, with Bishop Gorantla Johannes OCD of Kurnool officiating.
Bishop Johannes emphasized the profound significance of the Sacraments in his homily. He likened Holy Communion to nourishment for the soul, just as food nourishes the body.
He further spoke on the importance of Confirmation as a moment of receiving the Holy Spirit, along with its gifts and fruits.
The bishop urged the faithful to embrace these sacraments with deep faith, encouraging them to strengthen their commitment to God and the Catholic Church.
The celebration brought together around 1,250 faithful, including Father Kola Vijay Raju, the Dean of Adoni Deanery, Father Tony Theckumpurath O.Carm, Vicar of Kosigi Parish, Father Thomas Mavunkal O.Carm, Parish Priest of Sunkeswari, and Father Johnson Kunnath O.Carm, Principal of Mount Carmel High School and Mission Councillor of the O.Carm Province.
The event was further graced by the presence of 9 SABS Sisters and 3 Diocesan animators.
