Diocese of Hung Hoa’s vicar general appointed as auxiliary bishop

Msgr. Paul Nguyen Quang Dinh, Vicar General of the Diocese of Hung Hoa in Vietnam, as its Auxiliary Bishop.

Pope Francis has appointed Msgr. Paul Nguyen Quang Dinh, vicar general of the Diocese of Hung Hoa in Vietnam, as its auxiliary bishop.

The Holy See Press Office publicized the announcement through a public bulletin.

Prior to his appointment, he was taking care of the Son Loc Cathedral in Hanoi and overseeing the liturgical commission of the diocese.

He also received the title of Voncaria's successor.

Born on May 18, 1973, in Son Thuy, Msgr. Nguyen studied philosophy and theology at the Saint Joseph Major Seminary in Hanoi.

He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Hung Hoa on November 29, 2005.

Msgr. Nguyen served as parish vicar of Du Ba (2006), parish priest of Ngo Xa (2006-2009), parish priest of Yen Tap (2016-2019), and parish priest of Tuyên Quang (2019-2022).

He acquired a master’s degree in liturgy and sacramental theology at the Institut Catholique de Paris, France.

As per data from UCA News, the Diocese of Hung Hoa is Vietnam’s largest diocese in terms of land area, covering more than 48,000 square kilometers.

It covers the provinces of Dien Bien, Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Phu Tho, and Son La, as well as parts of Ha Giang, Ha Tay, Hoa Binh, and Tuyen Quang.

Bishop Dominic Hoang Minh Tien is the incumbent bishop, ordained and installed in 2022.
