Daughters of Saint Paul installs new provincial superior

The Daughters of Saint Paul has elected Sr. Pinky Barrientos

The Daughters of Saint Paul elected Sr. Pinky Barrientos into the office of the superior of Philippines-Malaysia-Papua New Guinea-Thailand Province on July 8.

Before her provincial superior election, Barrientos edited for eight years the CBCP Monitor, the print news service of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines published fortnightly.

She has also edited the CBCP News, the online news service of the conference.

Barrientos spent most of her apostolic life working in radio, television, and the editorial department of the publishing house of the congregation.

She also served as local superior of the congregation for one term and as provincial councilor for two terms.

Barrientos will serve for a term of three years as provincial superior. The congregation re-elects its provincial superior for another term.

Known as the Media Sisters, Blessed James Alberione and Sr. Tecla Merlo founded the congregation in Italy in 1915.

It reached the Philippines, where the congregation's central house is located, in 1938.

The congregation spread to Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, and Thailand from the Philippines.

Currently, the congregation has more than 2,000 sisters in 220 communities in 52 countries.

In an online message to Radio Veritas Asia, Barrientos requested for prayers her discharge from the office of the provincial superior.

Barrientos succeeded Sr. Delia Abian who held the post for two consecutive terms.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
