On September 10, 2024, the Commission for Canon Law and Other Legislative Texts of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) unveiled a pivotal book titled “Aggiornamento in Canon Law: Theory and Praxis.”

Edited by Rev. Prof. Merlin Rengith Ambrose, the Executive Secretary of the Commission for Canon Law and Professor of Canon Law at St. Peter’s Pontifical Institute, and guided by Most Rev. Dr. Antonysamy Savarimuthu, Chairman of the Commission, the book is a significant addition to the field of canon law.

The book was released during the 95th Executive Committee meeting of the CCBI and includes contributions from prominent bishops, Vatican officials, and esteemed university professors from around the world.

His Eminence Filipe Neri Cardinal Ferrão, President of the CCBI, praised the publication, noting that it is an invaluable resource for canonists. "It provides insights into recent canonical amendments and their practical application," Cardinal Ferrão remarked.

Most Rev. Dr. Antonysamy Savarimuthu highlighted the book’s importance in assisting canon lawyers, especially in handling cases reserved for the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith.

He emphasized that the book would enhance understanding of canonical provisions and their appropriate juridical implementation. Most Rev. Juan Ignacio Arrieta, Secretary of the Dicastery for the Legislative Texts at the Vatican, described the book as "an invaluable and timely resource for canonists," underscoring its role in providing updated juridical interpretations of recent canonical changes reflecting the Pope’s intentions.

The first copies of the book were presented to Cardinals Oswald Gracias and Antony Poola, Most Rev. George Antonysamy, the Vice-President; Most Rev. Anil Cuoto, the Secretary-General; Stephen Alathara, the Deputy Secretary-General; as well as other Office-bearers of the CCBI and Archbishops from across India.
