Bishop Maralit Jr. named as FABC Chairman for Social Communication

The Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences (FABC) Central Committee has appointed Bishop Marcelino Antonio M. Maralit Jr. as the Bishop Chairman of the FABC Office of Social Communication (OSC).
His appointment was approved on March 12, 2025, and takes effect from January 1, 2025, to December 31, 2027.
Bishop Maralit, who has played a significant role in advancing Church communication in Asia, is eligible for a second term after his current tenure.
The FABC expressed deep gratitude for his leadership and contributions to the Office of Social Communication over the past years and looks forward to his continued collaboration in strengthening media and communication efforts across the region.
As the Lenten season unfolds, the FABC extends prayers and best wishes to Bishop Maralit in his mission to enhance social communication within the Church.
He was born in Manila on May 18, 1969, and pursued his studies in philosophy at St. Francis de Sales Major Seminary in Lipa City.
He later obtained a licentiate in sacred theology from Universidad de Navarra, Spain, and a licentiate in church history from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross, Rome.
He was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Lipa on March 13, 1995.
Following his ordination, he served as Vicar of Immaculate Conception Parish in Bauan, Batangas, for a year before transitioning to an academic role as a professor at St. Francis de Sales Major Seminary for three years.
From 2003 to 2009, he held several key roles at St. Francis Theological Seminary, serving as Vice-Chancellor, Professor, Educator, and Dean of Studies before being appointed Rector until 2013.
Before becoming a bishop, he was the pastor of Invención de la Santa Cruz Parish in Alitagtag, Batangas, and a member of the Council of Priests of the Archdiocese of Lipa from 2013 to 2014.
Bishop Maralit served as the Bishop of Boac in the Philippines after being appointed by Pope Francis on December 31, 2014.
Pope Francis has appointed him as the new bishop of the Diocese of San Pablo on September 21, 2024. He was installed on November 21, 2024.
