A Myanmar military airstrike on Let Pan Hla village in Singu township, a resistance-controlled area north of Mandalay, killed nearly 30 civilians and injured 30 others, according to the Mandalay People’s Defence Force and local media reports on March 15.

The attack, which struck a crowded market area on Friday (March 14) afternoon, left six children among the dead and destroyed nearby homes.

Myanmar has faced ongoing conflict since the military coup on February 1, 2021, with resistance forces and ethnic minority groups locked in clashes with the army.

The military has intensified airstrikes against these groups, which lack aerial defense.

Osmond, spokesperson for the Mandalay People’s Defence Force, described the strike as targeting civilians, not military personnel.

Myanmar Now reported the death toll could be as high as 30, with several critically injured.

A recent report by Nyan Lynn Thit Analytica, a Myanmar research and advocacy group, revealed that since the military’s 2021 takeover, 2,224 civilians have been killed and 3,466 injured in 4,157 airstrikes.
