20 participants complete Sign Language Course to Minister to deaf community in Malaysia

10-week basic sign language course participants

Earlier this August, the Parish Integral Human Development Ministry (PIHD) of the Church of the Divine Mercy in the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, celebrated the completion of a 10-week basic sign language course.

The course, supported by the Catholic Ministry for the Deaf (CMfD), was attended by 20 participants from various parish ministries.

This initiative aimed to enhance communication with the deaf community, fostering inclusivity and compassion within the parish.

The participants’ graduation marked a significant milestone, as many of them met members of the deaf community for the first time during the ceremony.

The event was graced by Fr. Michael Chua, the Ecclesiastical Assistant to the Archdiocesan Ministry for the Deaf, and Fr. George Harrison, the parish priest of the Church of the Divine Mercy.

Through this course, the participants are now better equipped to serve and minister to the deaf community, reflecting the Church’s commitment to inclusivity and holistic human development.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
