Pope Francis, during the Angelus message, announced an Ecumenical Prayer Vigil for Synod to take place in St Peter's Square on September 30.

At the Ecumenical Prayer Vigil, "we will entrust to God the work of the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops," the Pope said.

He continued that the Taizé Community would organize a special program throughout that weekend for the young people who would come to the Vigil.

Pope Francis noted that the path to Christian unity and the Church's synodal conversion are linked.

The Pope announced the date of the Ecumenical Prayer Vigil in the context of the traditional Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which occurs every year from January 18 to 25.

The theme of this year for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity will be “Do good, seek justice” (Isaiah 1:17).

Pope Francis encouraged all "to thank God who faithfully and patiently guides His people towards full communion, and let us ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten and sustain us with His gifts.”

The Pope invited “brothers and sisters of all Christian denominations to participate in this gathering of the People of God." - With inputs from Vatican News
