A Catholic bishop in the Philippines has welcomed the passage of a bill in Congress that will require elementary and high school students to undergo mandatory values education.
Catholics in the central Philippine province of Iloilo lit 6,000 candles to form an image of the “Santo Nino” on Jan. 18 as part of a festival dubbed “Dinagyang” to honor the Child Jesus.
The parol goes back to the early years of Christianity in the country, when people use it to light their way to church for the early morning Christmas Masses.
