Muslim leaders in Sri Lanka said the holy month of Ramadan is an opportunity to strengthen dialogue and understanding among various religions.

"While the country and the whole world are grappling with the pandemic, generosity must guide people," said Sheikh Abdulla Abdul Rahman in an interview with AsiaNews.

The Muslim leader is a known activist and member of the Negombo Program for Inter-religious Dialogue.

Muslim religious leaders have called on all the faithful to respect health protocols in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, saying that people should pray at home.

Sheikh Rahman said much can be learned from the global crisis. "Those who suffer, regardless of their religious beliefs, must be helped," he said.

"Ramadan allows us to understand in what conditions the poor live; fasting is a tool that brings us closer to those who suffer from hunger every day," added the Muslim leader.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
