We are Family

December 30, Friday, Feast of The Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph
Daily Readings: Sir 3:2-6, 12-14 ; Gospel: Mt 2:13-15, 19-23

One of the things I missed dearly while away during my years in the missions was my family. Though I was never really short in meeting people who considered and embraced me as a member of their families, I could not deny that longing to have the chance to celebrate vacations and Christmas with the family that has raised me.

The family leaves an indelible mark in each of us, it helps define us as persons and even as servant leaders of our community. Likewise Jesus who embraced us fully in our human nature enjoyed this aspect of our human condition. He had parents, he had people whom he called his family. And though not much is written about the details of his family life as a typical Jewish child and eventually towards adulthood, it’s easy to presume that it was nonetheless partly ordinary. We look into the example of His parents who though in most cases remained silent have made a clear impact in the very person of Christ.

In the utter simplicity of his parents Jesus grew in his practice of the faith as a devout and righteous man. Learning about the essence of his faith and relationship with the Father. We honour today the family of Jesus as a reminder for all of us. To reach out to ideal of caring and valuing our families with love and nourish it in the faith.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
