May 4, Saturday of the Fifth Week of Easter
Daily Readings: Acts 16:1-10; John 15:18-21
Under Paul's leadership, the good news spread to various places, accompanied by a new convert named Timothy. Together, they traveled to various locations to spread the word of God, leading to the confirmation of faith in the churches and the growth of believers.
”In the Gospel today, Jesus warned his disciples that if they follow him, they will experience whatever Jesus will experience. He emphasized that if he is persecuted, then they will be persecuted but if they keep his words, they will keep their words.
A loyal and trusted servant is willing to sacrifice his life for his master. If the master is in danger, he will always protect and cover him. The loyalty is immeasurable. If his master truly trusts him, people will listen to him, as he represents the master's voice.
This is the invitation of Jesus to his disciples: that they should be trustworthy and loyal to him. Jesus is preparing them for their upcoming mission. They will be the voice of Jesus in spreading the gospel but at the same time, they must be ready for the consequences. Jesus is trying to let them understand that, because of Him, they will suffer too.
Call to Action for Catholic Living: As loyal servants of God, are we willing to sacrifice our lives to do the mission of Christ?
Lord, help your loyal servant to be trustworthy enough to deliver your good news despite the consequences. Amen.
