India: 2500 Catholics attend annual Lenten retreat in Tamil Nadu

Over 2,500 Catholics attended the three-day Lenten retreat held from April 4–6, 2025, at Sahaya Matha Church, Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu.

Over 2500 Catholics daily attended the annual Lenten retreat for parishioners at Sahaya Matha Church (Our Lady of Sorrows Church), Karaikudi, in the Sivagangai diocese, southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

The retreat took place from April 4 to 6, 2025. It is a three-day retreat starting from 9 AM till 7 PM.

Everyone received tea, buttermilk, snacks, and lunch. There were more than 2500 people every day. Everything went well, said Father Charles Irudayam, parish priest.

The preachers are Fathers Motchanathan and Jesudurai from the Vellore Diocese. “They did well. Thanks to all,” said Irudayam.

The annual Lenten retreat is held to review Christian life for Lent and Easter. It is also to prepare Catholics to live and witness their faith authentically to others.
