True Servant
May 29, Wednesday of the Eighth Week in Ordinary Time
Memorial of Saint Paul VI, Pope
Daily Readings: 1 Peter 1:18-25; Mark 10:45
The first reading reveals that the precious blood of Christ redeems us, anchoring our hope and faith in God. God is asking us to purify our souls through obedience to charity, brotherly love, and a sincere heart to love one another earnestly.
In today's Gospel, James and John, sons of Zebedee, requested a favor, asking to sit on his right and left, respectively, when the time of glory arrived. However, Jesus informed them that he would not make the final decision.
He also told them that whoever comes first will serve them all. Instead of seeking service, the Son of Man came to minister and offered his life as a redemption for many.
Some individuals relish the attention and admiration they receive when placed on a pedestal. Some want to secure a position above others, just like James and John, who requested to be on the right and left sides of Jesus.
Jesus made it plain to them that he came to this world to serve, not to receive.
How many times do we want power in our lives? The reason is that when you have power, you can accomplish any task. With power, we can do great things in service of others.
Call to Action for Catholic Living: We should keep in mind that power has limitations, and we should not abuse it. Jesus is a good example of someone who did not abuse his power; he served his people truthfully.
Lord, help us to be true servants, amen!
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
