True generosity gives all…
November 21, Memorial of The Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Monday of the 34th Week of Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: Revelation 14:1-3, 4b-5; Luke 21:1-4
Jesus commends the widow for being generous. She gives the temple treasury the two coins that she needs to survive the day. She offers not just a token but her whole life. The copper coins are less valuable compared to gold and silver but are accepted by the Romans for local use.
Wealthy people put in large sums, which make the Sadducees and priests in the Temple happy. They give from their excesses, therefore not endangering their finances, unlike the poor widow, who has nothing for herself.
God is not interested in quantity, which is highly commendable for us humans, but in our hearts and our total condition when we are giving; God appreciates the small gestures of the poor. The poor can teach us total sacrifice. They fast when food is scarce. They give the crumbs they collect to their children to survive.
If we want God’s approval, let us give till it hurts. And let us continue giving until our act of giving becomes an attitude that will no longer hurt but will render peace and joy.
Are you willing to give your all to make a difference in people's lives?
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
