Stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour. Let's look at this parable from a different perspective: death.
Jesus' parable applies to our preparedness for the Lord's coming at the time of our death. We all have heard of stories of unexpected deaths. Often, we are surprised to hear that so and so has died. That is why we should always be prepared.
The best preparation for death is twofold:
- Pray for a good death, that you and I may be in the state of grace and receive the help of the sacraments of the Church and
- Live a good life in conformity with God's will. If we do these two things, death will not catch us unprepared, and we shall join the Lord in the unending marriage feast of heaven.
If saints could succeed, we too can do it by the abundant grace of God.
