December 15, Thursday of the Third Week of Advent
Daily readings: Isaiah 54:1-10; Gospel:Luke 7:24-30
Jesus put John the Baptist on a higher level in front of many people by praising his personality and character. He said that John was firm in his beliefs, brave when he preached, and did a good job of his job.
Jesus said, "Among those born of women, there was none greater than John the Baptist." This was done by Jesus so that there would be no conflict about who was greater, Jesus or John the Baptist, as was widely discussed among the Jews at that time.
Praise is usually done in front of that person as an acknowledgment of their positive side. However, if the person being praised is humble, he does not want to be praised in public. Who doesn't like compliments? Sometimes we think that compliments are a form of acknowledging our existence in the eyes of others.
On the other hand, the two great figures in today's gospel teach us to always be humble by not expecting praise from others and being brave enough to recognize the good and strengths of others.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
