Daily Readings: Romans 8:18–25; Luke 13:18–21

In today’s gospel, Jesus compares the Kingdom of God to mustard seed and yeast.

Both mustard seed and yeast signify smallness in every sense of the word. Put differently, they stand as symbols of humble origin. However, the fact that they are destined for greatness is what Jesus is hinting at. Jesus makes use of these images to suggest that the greatness built in them will make both mustard seed and yeast known and visible at one point.

Extending the analogy, Jesus means that the Kingdom of God declares God’s transformative power at work so that witnessing its greatness will be inevitable at some point.

In making use of mustard seed and yeast in his preaching, Jesus intends to say that the transformative power of God should characterize the lives of the Kingdom people too. Then, the exemplary lives of the faithful will manifest God’s goodness and glory.

As Christians, witnessing the power of God is not enough. Rather, we must let such Divine power be seen in our day-to-day activities.

Real-life circumstances are the best stage for proclaiming God. How are we going to manifest the transformative power of God at work in us?

Let us pray for the grace to be and behave as the Kingdom People!

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
