Faith in God's Healing and Grace

Jesus walks on the water and helps Peter
Background Music: Panalangin by Mark Anthony Cuevas

June 30, Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: Wis 1:13-15; 2:23-24; 2 Cor 8:7, 9, 13-15; Mk 5:21-43

The first reading emphasizes that God did not create death and does not delight in the destruction of the living. God created humanity to be imperishable, made in His image and likeness.

However, death entered the world through the envy of the devil, affecting those who align with him. The responsorial psalm praises God: “I will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me.”

In the second reading, we are reminded to excel in faith, discourse, knowledge, earnestness, and love, just as we excel in gracious acts. Our Lord Jesus Christ, though rich, became poor for our sake, so that through His poverty, we might become rich.

Today's gospel illustrates Jesus' healing ministry through two profound miracles of faith.

The first miracle involves a woman suffering from a severe hemorrhage for years. Hearing that Jesus was passing by, she believed that merely touching His clothes would heal her. Her faith was rewarded immediately, and her bleeding stopped.

Jesus, sensing the power leaving Him, sought her out. When she revealed herself, Jesus told her, "Your faith has made you well; go in peace and be cured of your affliction."

The second miracle is the resurrection of Jairus's daughter. Jairus, a synagogue official, pleaded with Jesus to heal his dying daughter. Despite being told that his daughter had died, Jesus encouraged Jairus to have faith.

Jesus entered the room with His disciples and the child's parents, took her hand, and said, "Talitha koum," meaning, "Little girl, I say to you, arise!" She immediately rose and walked, and Jesus instructed that she be given something to eat.

These miracles highlight the incredible power of faith in Jesus. The profound belief of those seeking healing led to miraculous outcomes.

Call to Action for Catholic Living: Life can be extended, and even terminal illnesses can be cured through the power of faith in God. Though we may not fully understand God's power, our faith can bring about new life if we truly believe.

Lord, increase our faith in you. Amen!
