Embracing True Wealth in Faith
June 21, Memorial of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, Religious
Daily Readings: 2 Kings 11:1-4, 9-18, 20; Matthew 6:19-23
The first reading speaks of how King Jehoram’s son was saved from the slaughter of the royal family. He was concealed for six years and brought to the palace at the age of seven.
In today's Gospel, Jesus encouraged his disciples, saying, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and decay destroy, and thieves break in and steal.”
He emphasized that where your treasure is, there your heart will also be.
This verse teaches that if one places their treasure in heaven, their heart and attention will be there as well. Conversely, if one's treasure is on earth, their focus will remain on earthly matters, often to the exclusion of God.
We should remember that everything we have is only lent to us by God. We are stewards of this earth, with God as the overall owner, including our lives. Relying on money and power can sometimes separate us from God.
Call to Action for Catholic Living: We need to realize that the treasures we should keep are not material wealth and power, but those that contribute to spreading God's love to others.
Lord, help us to store our treasure in heaven and not on this earth. Amen.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
