Embracing Christ’s Call

Background Music: Panalangin by Mark Anthony Cuevas
    Voiced by: Shirly Benedictos

September 5, 2024 Thursday of the Twenty-second Week in Ordinary Time
Feast Day of St. Teresa of Calcutta
Daily Readings: 1 Corinthians 3:18-23; Luke 5:1-11

The Gospel recounts the calling of the first disciples—Peter, James, and John—through the miraculous catch of fish.

After a night of fruitless toil, their encounter with Jesus shifts everything. Despite their doubts, they obey His instruction to cast their nets once more and are rewarded with an overwhelming catch.

Peter’s response—falling to his knees and acknowledging his sinfulness—reveals the profound impact of being in the presence of the divine.

It’s a moment of humility, reminding us that discipleship often begins with recognizing our need for grace.

Jesus’ words, “Do not be afraid,” mark their transition from fishermen to “fishers of men,” highlighting their new mission to share the message of hope and salvation.

In our own lives, where do we feel weary and doubtful? Where have we allowed fear to limit our faith? Jesus invites us to trust Him, casting our nets into the deep, even when the results seem uncertain.

Call to Action for Catholic Living: May we listen to His call with courage, allowing our willingness to follow Him to transform not only our lives but also the lives of those we encounter. Amen.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
