The Canaanite Woman's Inspiring Encounter with Jesus

Background Music: Panalangin by Mark Anthony Cuevas
    Voiced by: Shirly Benedictos

August 7, Wednesday of the Eighteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Daily Readings: Jeremiah 31:1-7; Matthew 15:21-28

The Gospel tells of a Canaanite woman who approaches Jesus, begging Him to heal her demon-possessed daughter. Initially, Jesus appears to dismiss her, saying He was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel.

However, the woman’s response is remarkable. She acknowledges Jesus as the Son of David and persists, saying that even the dogs eat the crumbs from the table.

Jesus is not trying to test or humiliate her, but to reveal her true faith. Her understanding of God’s power and Jesus’ mission, along with her acknowledgment that Gentiles too can benefit from God's mercy, is profound.

Her persistence and faith are rewarded as Jesus grants her request, healing her daughter and casting out the demon.

This encounter demonstrates that faith transcends all boundaries and can be a deeply personal relationship with God. The woman's persistence inspires us never to give up on our prayers or relationship with God.

Call to Action for Catholic Living:  Faith is universal and essential in our walk with Him. God loves all people, regardless of their background.

Let us have the courage, faith, and confidence in the loving God who always cares for us.
