Myanmar bishop remembers “two words” every morning
Yangon Archdiocese celebrated the seventh anniversary of the installation of Cardinal Charles Bo on February 14.
“Whenever I see the cake, I am frightened, and even before cutting the cake and I want to run away like Saint Peter,” Cardinal Bo, the archbishop of Yangon said.
Cardinal Bo shared that he told the news reporters that “there is no reason to regret.”
During Christmas, the news reporters strongly criticized Cardinal Bo for cake-cutting with armed forces chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing in Yangon.
“Whatever I did, it was out of love and compassion; at the same time, I expect good consequences for all, and there is no reason to regret it,” Cardinal Bo said. It was how Cardinal Bo responded when asked about it by news reporters.
Cardinal Bo shared a seven-point Valentine Day message of Pope Francis: build love, commit to it forever, (with) consideration and care, be courageous and grateful, recognize mistakes and apologize sincerely, not to expect perfection and do not go to bed angry.
The archdiocese of Yangon also honored 53-year-old Bishop Noel Saw Naw Aye for completing a year of his episcopal ordination on February 14.
“I try to remember the Word of the Lord that is FOLLOW ME every morning when I rise from bed. I pray for all those whom I have to lead them,” said Noel Saw Naw Aye, the Auxiliary Bishop of Yangon archdiocese, who also celebrates his birthday on the same day.
Nevertheless, Bishop Noel said that “whatever we do, our goal is to unite with the Lord, our God. … I have to do things that should be aiming to the goal of eternity.”
Bishop Noel acknowledged “doing things in a worldly disposition” and discovering imperfections during a private recollection before February 14.
Both anniversaries coincide with the feast of Saint Cyril and Saint Methodius.
In the homily of the Anniversary Eucharistic Celebration,
Father Dominic Zarbinus, in the homily, said that St Cyril and St Methodius are men of God: who follow God, who keep the commands of God with joy, who live for eternity. A man of God has confidence in God (Micah 6:8).”
“By the fact that we are ordained priests, we cannot tell the people to fight back in a time of political turmoil. Cardinal Bo encourages peace and reconciliation always,” Father Dominic said.
