India: After 60 years, church-run school's classrooms upgraded
The first-ever smart classrooms for a church-run school in India’s northeast state of Manipur were opened on June 8.
Joseph’s Higher Secondary School at Sugnu, one of the first mission stations in Manipur, upgraded its classrooms after 60 years of establishment.
Archbishop Dominic Lumon of Imphal, Manipur blessed and inaugurated the smart classroom in the presence of 27 priests, nuns, teachers, well-wishers, civil leaders, and students.
It is a long-felt need of the area to have higher secondary education for social, economic and geographical reasons, the prelate said.
The Archbishop appreciated former and present school principals for their untiring work, especially during the Covid-19 lockdowns.
He said, “This smart classroom will raise the standard of imparting knowledge to students.”
The prelate thanked former Parish Priest Father Stephen for starting the school building which could not be possible today without him.
He lastly thanked the people, staff, school management, church leaders and government officials for their cooperation.
Father Victor Arulappan, principal of the school thanked all those who made the dreams of many into reality.
He said, “Though the realization has come in my time, it is the contribution of so many priests and nuns working before me.”
Students showcased cultural dances and solo singing on the occasion.
After the inaugural program, a football match was organized between the priests of Imphal Archdiocese and the school inmates.
It is with great hope that the school will grow and bloom with well-equipped infrastructures. - RVA Zo
