"Women's Rights are Human Rights"
A practicing lawyer at the Supreme Court of India addressed the students of St. Theresa's College for Women, Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, on "Women's Rights are Human Rights" on December 10, 2024.
Sister Jessy Kurian, an advocate at the Supreme Court of India, New Delhi, stated in her talk that every home, institution, and society should promote the rights of girls for their common good and the future of the nation.
The college was established in 1953 in a small village, Eluru, a place surrounded by forests and animals when literacy was a far dream.
Sisters of St. Ann of Providence, Secunderabad, own and manage the college.
This is the first women's autonomous college in Andhra Pradesh.
For the last 70 years, the staff and management have been molding young girls into national leaders and empowering them with knowledge and skills.
Every year, thousands of women go out into society educated and empowered by this college," said Principal Sr. Mercy Punnamchira.
The college aims to create mature, professionally equipped, and service-oriented integrated women leaders committed to excellence and trained on the lines of Gospel truths to become assets to the community and nation.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
