From streets to kitchen: Turning a new leaf for Jonard and Joseph

Jonard and Joseph were homeless and former street dwellers in Manila, Philippines, for years. But now, their destiny has changed for the better.
Thanks to the Arnold Janssen Kalinga Foundation, an NGO started by a Catholic priest, Father Flaviano L. Villanueva, who visualized a different future for Jonard and Joseph. Villanueva, a Divine Word Missionary, provided a new possibility and opportunity for Jonard and Joseph.
“Two of our resident-beneficiaries, namely, Jonard and Joseph, graduated last April 4 from a two-month kitchen management training organized by Canva Philippines through their Empowerx program, which aims to give kitchen skills opportunities to former homeless persons,” said Villanueva on his social media post.
“It hits differently knowing that former street dwellers can access the best learning opportunities through high-impact partnerships,” added Villanueva.
Since 2015, Arnold Janssen Kalinga Center, Tayuman, in Metro Manila, Philippines, has provided shelter for homeless people and trained them to earn a living through various vocational educations.
Arnold Janssen Kalinga Centre is a community-based program that is a sanctuary for many poor people.
Its name, "Kalinga," which translates to "a hot meal and a bath a day" from the phrase "Kain-Ligo-Nang-Ayos," encapsulates its mission.
The center provides dignified, systematic, and holistic care to the city's wounded and homeless.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
