Philippines: New Claretian Provincial elected

On January 26, 2025, Claretian Father Amador C. Tumbaga was elected the Provincial Superior of the Province for the next six years during the XVI Provincial Chapter.

Alongside him, Fr. Alejandro O. Gobrin, CMF, Consultor, Prefect of Spirituality and Community Life, Fr. Arvin B. Bellen, CMF, Consultor, Prefect of the Apostolate, Fr. Mauricio T. Ulep, CMF, Consultor, Prefect of Formation and Fr. Julius Jose A Coching, CMF, Consultor, prefect of EConomy were elected as members of the Provincial Government.

The 44-year-old priest Tumbaga will lead members of the Fr. Rhoel Gallardo Claretian Province which includes the Philippines, Vietnam, Australia, and Myanmar.

He was born on March 30, 1980, to Alejandro Tumbaga and Carmen Concha in Lusacan, Tiaong, Quezon Province.

He made his first profession on May 5, 2002, in Bunguiao, Zamboanga City, his perpetual profession was on July 16, 2007, in Quezon City, and ordained a priest on December 8, 2007.

He has been the congregation's Provincial Vicar and Prefect of Spirituality since 2019.

He has served as a formator, a novice master, a student prefect, and a local finance director.

In addition, he was the Claretians' Provincial Secretary and Prefect of Formation, and he taught philosophy in the seminary for many years.

Tumbaga is currently Fr. Gallardo's vice postulator for the cause of martyrdom.

The XVI Provincial Chapter, held at the Claret Retreat House in Quezon City from January 22-29, 2025, began with Bible Enthronement and a video message from Bishop Elias L. Ayuban, Jr., CMF, DD, former Provincial Superior.

The Chapter was presided over by Fr. Matthew Vattamattam, CMF, the Superior General.

The chapter focused on discussions and presentations related to the economy, apostolate, and formation, as well as governance. The delegates also participated in group conversations and open forums on missions in Vietnam, Australia, and Myanmar.

On the fifth day, after a period of prayer and reflection, Fr. Tumbaga was reelected as Provincial Superior, taking his Oath of Fidelity and Profession of Faith. The day concluded with a Eucharistic Celebration in honor of Fr. Eduardo Apungan, CMF’s birthday.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Fr. Amador C. Tumbaga, CMF, and his new team as they lead the Fr. Rhoel Gallardo Province in fulfilling the Congregational Dream across the Philippines, Vietnam, Australia, and Myanmar.
