Philippines clergy gathers in fellowship and thanksgiving

Soltare Cup 2023 was hosted by the Archdiocese of Lipa City

The 14th Southern Luzon Tagalog Regional Cup (SOLTARE) themed "Pinagtipon-tipong Pagpapala, Pagkabukas-palad at Pasasalamat" was hosted by the archdiocese of Lipa City from August 22 to 25.

Around 500 diocesan priests from Southern Tagalog, including those from the Prelature of Infanta, the Apostolic Vicariate of Calapan in Oriental Mindoro, the Apostolic Vicariate of San Jose (AVSJ), the Diocese of Lucena, the Diocese of Gumaca, the Diocese of Boac, the Diocese of Imus, and the Diocese of San Pablo, attended it.

Archbishop Gilbert Garcera, D.D., said this is an important gathering of the clergy, who are invited to have open hearts because a priest’s life is one of "spontaneity of pastoral charity and requires "priests operating in a vacuum to work in a strong bond with bishops and brother priests."

"Inspire and journey as a people of God," he said.

The gathering showcased fraternity, spiritual sessions, cultural presentations from students, and sports activities.

Among the games held were basketball, swimming, lawn tennis, volleyball, badminton singles and doubles, darts, chess, word games, and games of the general

The event began with the eucharistic celebration held at the Immaculate Conception Parish in Bauan, which was presided over by Garcera.

The Apostolic Vicariate of San Jose in Occidental Mindoro's Bishop, Pablito M. Tagura, SVD, D.D., presided over it.

Rev. Msgr. Ramon D. Uriarte, MA, SThL, Administrator of the Diocese of Gumaca, delivered the homily, which also touched on the themes of blessings, openness, and thanksgiving.

Father Oscar Andal, rector and parish priest of NSPSPP, as well as Mayor Arth Jhun Marasigan of Sto. Tomas City gave welcome remarks following the mid-morning prayer and holy hour.

Then all priests gathered for the recollection proper, with Tagura serving as the speaker.

Members of the clergy went home happy and recharged as they continued with their service assignments.
