Pakistan: Cardinal Joseph Coutts to receive the “Tamgha-e-Imtiaz” award next year
Cardinal Joseph Coutts, Archbishop Emeritus of Karachi, Pakistan, is one of the 104 people who will receive the “Tamgha-e-Imtiaz” award at a ceremony on March 23 next year.
On Independence Day (August 14), Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari approved the persons who would receive the awards for their services to the country.
“Tamgha-e-Imtiaz” is a Pakistani state-organized honor. Any civilian in Pakistan receives it based on their achievements, including those of the Pakistan Armed Forces.
Receiving the prestigious Tamgha-e-Imtiaz marks a proud moment for the Catholic Church in Pakistan, as well as his dedicated service to the country.
This honor recognizes Coutts’ tireless efforts in promoting interfaith harmony, education, and social welfare in the country.
The Catholic Church in Pakistan rejoices at this recognition of Coutts’ remarkable contributions. His dedication to the country and its people is a testament to the Church’s values of love, care, and service.
These individuals receive the award for their contributions to a variety of fields, including public service, literature, science and technology, education, health, the arts, sports, and social and public service.
Other notable awardees include former Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Shaheed, who will receive the Nishan-e-Pakistan for his public service contributions, and Arshad Nadeem, who will be awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz for his achievements in sports.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
