More than 1,000 young people gathered in Kota Kinabalu from March 31 to April 6 for the Malaysian Catholic Youth Day (MCYD) 2025.
Archbishop John Wong Soo Kau of Kota Kinabalu welcomed the delegates, saying the coming days are packed with a series of events that will rejuvenate their faith and lives while experiencing the rich culture, hospitality, and generosity of Catholics.
In his talk, Archbishop Julian Leow Beng Kim of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, chairman of the Episcopal Commission for Youth, said the MCYD 2025 is organized to walk in faith and hope for the common mission of Christ.
The theme of MCYD 2025 is “In the Spirit of Synodality, Young Catholics of Malaysia Walking Together.”
Several bishops, priests, and nuns from nine archdioceses and dioceses of Malaysia are attending the event.
Several parishes and Catholic families are hosting the youth delegates to observe people's faith and daily lives.
The Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu is hosting the week-long event. Kota Kinabalu is the capital of Malaysia’s Sabah state in the northern part of the island of Borneo.
