A journey of hope, faith amid crisis for young Catholic women to become nuns in Myanmar

Young women gather at Good Shepherd Convent, Yangon, for the 'Come and See' program, April 1–24, 2025.

Amid Myanmar's ongoing political challenges, a beacon of hope emerged at Good Shepherd Convent in Yangon through the "Come and See" program, held from April 1-24, 2025.

Organized by the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd, the program welcomed 29 young women interested in exploring the religious life and mission of the Congregation.

This special initiative, focused on vocation promotion, provided participants with a sacred space to reflect, learn, and grow spiritually.

Under the theme "Put out into the deep water," the program encouraged the girls to dive deeper into their inner lives and discern through meaningful activities.

The Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd, also known as the Sisters of the Good Shepherd, is a Catholic religious order founded in 1835 by Mary Euphrasia Pelletier in Angers, France.

In January 2016, the Good Shepherd Sisters in Myanmar marked the 150th year of the foundation of the Good Shepherd Sisters in Myanmar.

The Myanmar Foundation is one of the last houses that Mary Euphrasia, the founder, made in 1866. The unstable political situation forced all the missionaries and local Sisters to leave the country in 1966/67. Nine local Sisters returned to Myanmar in 1973 and refounded the congregation.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
