Jesuits host cross-border youth camp uniting young leaders from Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos
Magis Thailand organized a five-day Magis camp for about 100 youths at Chiang Rai St. Xavier's College, Thailand, from October 21–25, 2024.
The participants were students and working youths from these three countries—Thailand, Myanmar, and Laos.
Jesuit Father Jessel Gerard M. Gonzales, director of the Ignatian Spirituality and Formation Office, Ateneo de Davao University, Philippines, led the camp.
Magis Thailand is a group of young people who support each other in applying Ignatian spirituality in their daily lives.
The group is for people aged 18–35 and aims to help members understand what is important and how to live a meaningful life.
Magis Thailand is one of the activities of the Jesuits in Thailand, along with the National Catholic University Students Network (CSNT), Xavier Workcamp, and the Xavier Hall Chapel.
Magis is a Latin word for "more" or "greater" and is a key part of Jesuit spirituality.
Jesuit schools, colleges, and universities use this term in the names of their student groups, classes, and retreats. The phrase refers to the Latin word "for the greater glory of God," ad majorem Dei gloriam, which is the motto of the Society of Jesus.
Magis is about doing more for Christ and others and striving for excellence and the greater good.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
