Pope sends emergency aid to earthquake victims in Myanmar, calls for global solidarity

Earthquake damage in Myanmar: Buddhist temples and houses collapsed after the March 28, 2025, quake.

Following a devastating earthquake in Myanmar, Pope Francis has extended spiritual and material support to the affected communities, expressing deep concern for the victims and displaced.

Through the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development and the Dicastery for the Service of Charity (Apostolic Almoner), the Holy Father has allocated emergency assistance to support the population during this critical phase.

The contribution is meant to be a concrete sign of the pope’s closeness to the people of Myanmar and reflects the Church’s mission of compassion and care for those in need.

The Vatican also noted that this aid complements the generous support mobilized globally by various Catholic communities, religious congregations, and humanitarian organizations.

Churches and institutions around the world are encouraged to continue their efforts of solidarity through prayer, financial contributions, and coordinated relief missions.

As Myanmar endures the aftermath of this tragedy, Pope Francis is accompanying the nation with fervent prayer, entrusting its people to the maternal care of the Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church.

The Holy Father invites all Catholics to unite in prayer and action for their suffering brothers and sisters in this Easter season, marked by the hope of the Resurrection.

In light of the pope’s appeal, the faithful are encouraged to offer special prayers during liturgies and personal devotions for the victims and their families. Prayer remains a powerful expression of solidarity and hope, especially for those suffering the most.

Trusted church agencies invite communities to organize collections or donations to support the ongoing relief efforts in Myanmar. These contributions will help provide essential resources to those affected by the disaster.

In addition, the Church urges its members to promote awareness in local parishes and communities about the urgent needs in Myanmar during this time of crisis. Informing others can inspire more people to engage in prayer and action.

The faithful are called to continue fostering a spirit of compassion, especially during the Jubilee Year 2025, by actively embodying the works of mercy in their daily lives. Through these concrete gestures of love, the Church becomes a beacon of hope for those in despair.

Radio Veritas Asia joins the Holy Father in urging the faithful to be living witnesses of charity and hope, extending not only words of comfort but concrete gestures of love to those in distress.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
