Japan to host the SIGNIS Asia assembly

SIGNIS Asia will be holding an assembly in Japan in September.

Tokyo, Japan, will host the upcoming SIGNIS Asia Assembly from September 23–27, 2024.

SIGNIS Asia is the World Catholic Association for Social Communication's regional assembly. SIGNIS is a global Catholic lay ecclesial movement for professionals in the communication media, including the press, radio, television, cinema, video, media education, the internet, and new technology.

The gathering in Japan will focus on the theme "Human Communication in the Digital World for a Culture of Peace."

Inspired by the poignant message of Pope Francis on World Communication Day, under the theme “Artificial Intelligence and the Wisdom of the Heart: Towards a Fully Human Communication," the organizers aim to delve deeply into the intersection of technology, humanity, and peace.

Against the backdrop of Japan’s rich cultural heritage and technological innovation, SIGNIS Japan invites Catholic communicators across Asia to explore the profound impact of digital communication on shaping a world of harmony and understanding.

Delegates are to engage in insightful discussions, connect with like-minded individuals, and contribute to the collective vision of fostering peace through the power of human connection in the digital age.

The organizers will provide more information on the transformative journey towards a culture of peace and inclusivity in due course.

Several key officials, including some Japanese bishops, Helen Osman, global president of SIGNIS, and Father Stanley Kozhichira, president of SIGNIS Asia, will address the gathering.

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
