Indian youth elected international secretary general of IYCS

Roshan Melwyn Lobo

The International Young Catholic Students (IYCS), a global Catholic action movement, elected  Advocate Roshan Melwyn Lobo, an Indian youth from the Mangalore diocese in south India, as Secretary General.

The Holy See and the United Nations recognize the IYCS.

The 17th IYCS World Council, which took place in Jordan from May 16 to 26, 2024, elected him.

He will operate from IYCS headquarters in Paris.

Roshan, born on January 28, 1998, graduated from St. Aloysius College with a Bachelor of Commerce degree.

He earned a Bachelor of Laws from St. Joseph's College of Law and a Master of Business Administration in International Business from Pondicherry Central University.

He graduated with a Master of Laws in Constitutional and Administrative Law from Christ University, Bangalore.  

He is an adjunct faculty member at St. Joseph's College of Law, Bengaluru.

He has extensive involvement in the Catholic youth movement, including serving as President of the Diocesan Executive Committee (DEXCO) of the Young Students' Movement and a member of the National Executive Committee of YCS/YSM India. He was the editor of the National YCS YSM Newsletter, "The Search."

He has represented India in international forums like World Youth Day 2016 in Krakow, Poland, and the World Youth Parliament 2017 in Beijing, China.

In the past, other Indian youth leaders have served IYCS, such as John Siddam of the Archdiocese of Hyderabad (1984–1986) and Manoj Mathew of the

Archdiocese of Calcutta (2003–2007) served as IYCS International Secretary General, -With input from Gangula Vignan Das

 

Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.”  Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
