Indian priest urges responsible AI use in pastoral ministry at SIGNIS 2025 meeting

An Indian priest and social communication official called the media professionals to use artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly in pastoral ministry.
Father Jackson Louis, secretary of the Commission for Social Communications, Dharmapuri Diocese, delivered a talk on artificial intelligence's (AI) transformative impact on pastoral ministry.
He was speaking at the national assembly of SIGNIS India, a Catholic association for communication held in Hyderabad, India, on February 18.
Father Jackson, a pioneer in Catholic media and founding general manager at Madha TV, highlighted AI’s growing impact on evangelization, faith formation, and church administration.
He demystified AI, defining it as the ability of machines to replicate human intelligence in problem-solving, perception, decision-making, and communication.
He emphasized AI’s limitations as a powerful data processor without emotions, urging its mindful and purpose-driven use in ministry.
Father Jackson highlighted AI’s potential in evangelization, faith formation, parish administration, and pastoral care, urging Church leaders to adopt it with transparency, inclusion, accountability, impartiality, reliability, and a human-centered approach.
He concluded with a strong call to action, encouraging thoughtful integration of AI into pastoral work while establishing safeguards for ethical use.
His insights offered a timely reflection on the opportunities and challenges AI presents in today’s digital church. - Ritchie Vincent
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
