India: CRI Goa Hosts Jubilee Cup 2025: A Celebration of Unity and Enthusiasm
The Conference of Religious India (CRI), Goa unit, hosted the Jubilee Cup 2025 on January 25-26, 2025 at Agnel Arena, Agnel Institute of Design and Technology, Assagão, India.
The event featured a variety of sports competitions for the religious community, including Futsal for male religious formees and priests (both diocesan and religious) and Throwball for nuns, including formees.
In the Throwball match for women religious in the Archdiocese of Goa, Team Blue, captained by Sr. Ivy Pereira SCC, emerged victorious.
The team comprised Sr. Renita Pinto SRA, Sr. Velangani Kukkamalla JMJ, Sr. Wendy Sequeira SCC, Sr. Christy Ubagaram SCC, Sr. Jyoti Almeida SCC, Sr. Nilu Lugun SU, Sr. Mamta Avare FDDC, and Postulant Fedora Fernandes SFN.
The Futsal competition for male religious formees was won by Team Dominican (OP), led by Br. Flaman Wasnik, with team members Br. Shawn Martin, Br. Perinayagam, Br. Rohan Pereira, Br. Nitesh Paul, Br. Stalin Vaz, Br. Adam Nayak, and Br. Joel Joseph. Meanwhile, Team South Zone, led by Fr. Mario Noronha and including Fr. Myron, Fr. Clifford Fernandes, Fr. Menoy D’Souza S.J., Fr. Savio, Fr. Americo Rodrigues and Fr. Shinu, secured victory in the Futsal match for priests.
An exhibition Futsal match was also held for women religious, with two teams participating.
Sr. Flory Rodrigues FMCK, President of CRI (Goa), emphasized the event's importance, stating, “As we celebrate the Jubilee Year 2025, we wanted to bring hope and joy in ways that resonate with the young and the marginalized. The committee felt that the sports field would be an ideal platform to engage and inspire young religious.”
The event was coordinated by Fr. Franky Fernandes OFM (Cap), Sr. Livia Nunes SFN, and Br. Prem Sagar SG, with Timothy Vaz serving as commentator. Xavier Fernandes officiated the Futsal matches, while Gajanan Rivonkar and Chandrakant Raikar were the officials for the Throwball event.
On the first day, Fr. Eugene D’Silva CSSR, Vice President of CRI (Goa), delivered the vote of thanks. On the second day, Bro. Prem Sagar SG and Sr. Daisy Kunnathuparambil JMJ extended a special vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all contributors.
This lively event celebrated the Jubilee Year while dynamically conveying its message, fostering unity and enthusiasm among participants.
