A Centre for Dalit/Subaltern Studies of Delhi Brotherhood Society launched the first series of the New Testament volume “Hindi Dalit Bible Commentary” by Archbishop Anil J. T. Couto of Delhi at the Constitution Club, New Delhi, on March 11.

The program began with a prayer by Dr. Nalini Abraham.

People primarily speak the Indo-Aryan language of Hindi in North India. The Hindi Belt region, which includes sections of northern, central, eastern, and western India, uses it as its common language.

Jesuit Father John Chathnath and Rev. Dr. Monodeep Daniel explained the Bible commentary to understand and follow the message of the gospel for the Hindi Dalit Christians and North Indians to understand and follow the Gospel message.

Chief Guest Archbishop Couto, in his address, highlighted the purpose of the commentary as to give new life and liberation to the people who are at the periphery of society.

Jesus’ mission was also to bring liberation to the people who were under the unjust system of society.

He cited the example of the Good Samaritan and said this effort and initiative is to bring Jesus’ message of justice, equality, and brotherhood to the Hindi-speaking area, especially in understanding the message of Jesus in the context of North India.

Many dignitaries and representatives of the Christian community attended the event.

Rev. Solomon George, Director of the Delhi Brotherhood Society, proposed a vote of thanks. - With input from Norbert Herman, SVD
