Francis Xavierians in Myanmar elect new Superior General

The Congregation of the Brothers of St. Francis Xavier (BFX) in the Diocese of Pathein in the Ayeyarwady Region of Myanmar elected a new Superior General on March 20.

“Brother Jude Saw Leh Mu (BFX) was elected a new Superior General of the Congregation of the Brothers of St. Francis Xavier,” Brother Daniel Htun Sin, one of the former Superiors General of the Congregation, informed on his Facebook post.

The election took place at the Novitiate of the Xavierian Brothers in the village of Mayanchaung in the township of Pathein. After the election, they begin their annual retreat starting on March 21 until 26.

Brother Bonaventure Aye Win (BFX) said, “Brother Leh Mu who succeeds Brother Bade Asar, the former

Superior General, will serve his community for four years from March 2022 to March 2026 as one term.”

Brother Aye Win continues saying, “Brother Leh Mu is the youngest superior compared to the former superiors of the Congregation. He is young, simple, and approachable.”

At present, the 48-year-old Brother Leh Mu works as a house in charge of St. Xaverian Brothers’ printing press which is situated in the township of Mingalar Taung Nyunt in Yangon, the former capital of Myanmar.

The new leader’s team members who are known as general councilors include Brothers Justin, Oswald, Vincent, and Raphael Htun Hla Than.

Xavierian Brothers are serving nine dioceses including Yangon and Mandalay Archdioceses in Myanmar.

Their novitiate and postulant house is located in Mayanchaung village in the township of Pathein.

The Congregation, which is under the bishop, runs an orphanage that is situated in the city of Pathein.

According to Brother Bonaventure (BFX), the Congregation was founded by Bishop Provost, a French missionary, in 1942. There are currently 81 members in the community with four novices.

Brother Jude Saw Leh Mu (BFX) is a Sagaw Karen from the Karen tribe which is one of the major eight tribes in the country. He was born in Lay Wah village in the valley in the township of Pha Hpon located in the Karen State of Myanmar.
