Diocese of Thái Bình celebrates 70th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day

The Diocese of Thái Bình celebrated the 70th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day and the birth of the "Catholic Medical Family of the Diocese” on February 16, 2025.
The event took place at the Bishop's House and Cathedral of Thai Binh Diocese.
It was a day of meetings and pilgrimage of the Jubilee Year for medical and health professionals—doctors, pharmacists, technicians, and Catholic students working and studying in the Thai Binh Diocese.
Over 120 people participated in the program from 8 am to 1:30 pm.
At the beginning of the program, Dr. Bui Trong Nghia, representing everyone present, sent greetings and best wishes to the Bishop of the Diocese in the spirit of the first days of the Lunar New Year.
Bishop Dominic Ðặng Văn Cầu encouraged members of the medical family to live their vocation and mission: to be like Christ—the greatest Physician.
He also invited doctors to collaborate, especially through teaching marriage doctrine on reproduction in the professional field, to equip the knowledge and understanding to help young people have the necessary and important provisions to live better in married and family life.
Next, the doctors and nurses shared their thoughts and concerns about their work, lives, and the wishes of their medical family.
Dr. Pham Van Giang said that medical professionals need to learn and purify themselves to become true health workers while making a living and living a Christian spirit. When they encounter difficult situations, they need to share and support…”
On this occasion, the members boldly made proposals and clear directions for the Thai Binh Catholic Medical Family. They established an organizational structure and operated under Father Gioan Chu Van Yen, spiritual director of the Catholic Medical Family of the Diocese.
Following this, the members received guidance on repentance and the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
“Doctors are usually the ones who perform the physical healing work for patients, but today they are the ones who are cared for, resuscitated, and healed by God through the bishop and the priests,” said Dr. Hoang Van Truong.
The pilgrimage mass to receive the plenary indulgence of the Catholic Medical Family of Thai Binh Diocese was celebrated solemnly and ended at noon.
After the Mass, everyone took souvenir photos together in the Cathedral grounds and shared a fraternal meal at the Bishop's House dining hall in joy and excitement.
At 13:30, the meeting ended, and everyone bid farewell to each other, departing home with a renewed spirit and joy, akin to pilgrims of hope.
