The Delhi Christian Pastors Fellowship organized a Lenten retreat for the bishops, priests, and pastors of the National Capital Region-Delhi at St. Thomas Mar Thoma Syrian Church, Karol Bagh, New Delhi, on March 14.

To begin the prayer session, Father Kosh Vaidyan, Rev. Jyoti Singh, and Father Norbert Herman, SVD, led a prayer and worship.

Herman welcomed members of the congregation and introduced the main speaker, Most Rev. Dr. Youhanon Mar Demetrios (Metropolitan Delhi Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church).

Bishop Demetrios spoke on the theme “The light shines in darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” (Jn 11:5).

“How does light bring life to us?” he asked, adding, “Light is the essence of God. Our minds are affected and clouded by the darkness that is sin.”

“We live in a world where we encounter light and darkness. Jesus is the light, and we experience his light in his presence and darkness in the absence of the light,” said Demetrios. “Therefore, the challenge before us as pastors is to become the life and light of Christ in our churches and society.

There were many Catholic priests and pastors present for the retreat. Father Afilash T. Isaac proposed a vote of thanks.
