Communication Foundation for Asia to hold first Cybermission Congress
A Catholic media center in Manila, Philippines, is to hold the first Cybermission Congress with the theme "Pastoral Communication in the Digital Age."
The Communication Foundation for Asia (CFA) is organizing the event together with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and SIGNIS Philippines.
The program will take place at the CFA in Manila from February 21 to 23, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (local time).
The topics that will be covered include the see-judge-act approach, the digital landscape today, the church in the digital world, and becoming cyber leaders, evangelizers, and missionaries. These will be dealt with on the first day.
On the second day, topics will be discussed, including navigating the digital space as a cyber missionary, using media as an advocacy platform, making artificial intelligence work for missions, demystifying information and communications technologies, and adapting digitalized operations for efficiency.
On the third day, topics include application and action planning, a strategic planning workshop, and cyber mission plans.
Established in 1968, CFA is a pioneer in development communication.
Father Cornelio Lagerwey, a Dutch priest and Sacred Heart Missionary, and Filipino writer Genaro Ong founded the Social Communications Centre (SCC) in 1965 to create socially relevant publications, radio, and TV programs.
In 1975, SSC changed its name to the CFA and carried on with its operations.
SIGNIS Philippines is a member of SIGNIS or the World Catholic Association for Communication.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ. RVA started in 1969 as a continental Catholic radio station to serve Asian countries in their respective local language, thus earning the tag “the Voice of Asian Christianity.” Responding to the emerging context, RVA embraced media platforms to connect with the global Asian audience via its 21 language websites and various social media platforms.
