Catholics plant 150 Luxury wood trees on their parish’s land in Keo Seima District, Mondol Kiri province, July 24.

Father Borey Phan said, “The planting of trees is for the unity of the parish committee and solidarity among them leads to successful work in the community.”

This program is the idea of Catholic people in Keo Seima and the planting of trees aimed for the next generation to know what it looks like, he added.

They planted 150  Kranhong, Beng (Makha tree) and Neang Nuon (rosewood). These species of trees in Cambodia are being cut down and the forest is declining, especially the rosewood.

Phan said, “Planting trees is very important for Catholics because when they plant a tree, they pray to God.”

He encouraged the parishioners to protect the environment, protect natural resources, which are the creation of God for all of us on earth.

"Even though the trees have their own names, Christians have given them new names, such as 'Tree of Peace, Tree of Happiness, Tree of Love,'" Phan said.

The tree planting program at Keo Seima Community was the first project carried out for the luxury forest, the construction of a school building, a church, and on the parish’s land 3.5-hectare plantation.

Catholics in Keo Seima and friends donated for the expenses of tree planting and the planting process.
