The Bible Society Malaysia (BSM) recently released three new local versions of the Holy Bible.
The three versions are the Alkitab Kudus Malaysia (BM Formal), Alkitab Berita Baik (Edisi Studi), and the Iban Study Bible (Trial Edition).
During the launch of the Bibles, tokens of appreciation were given to Rev Dr Anwar Tjen and Rev Dr Daniel See, who served as translation consultants for the Alkitab Kudus Malaysia and Alkitab Berita Baik (Edisi Studi) versions respectively.
According to the BSM, they started the Alkitab Kudus Malaysia translation in 2011 to meet the demand of parishes and communities mainly speaking Bahasa Malaysia.
This version, which features a formal translation closer to the Bible’s original text, was crafted mainly for preaching and research purposes.
Meanwhile, the Alkitab Berita Baik, which took almost two decades to finish, was for Bible study purposes of Bahasa Malaysia speakers.
The Iban Study Bible (Trial Edition), the latest of the three versions, was specifically created for the Iban community in Sarawak and other parts of Malaysia.
BSM’s launch of the new Bible versions coincided with their 40th foundation anniversary.
The organization traces its roots to Wales in the United Kingdom. They formally created their own branch in Singapore in October 1984.
BSM’s first-ever office was located along Jalan Universiti in Petaling Jaya.
At present, the organization lacks sufficient warehouse space to meet its inventory and logistics needs. In line with this, BSM also launched its building fund to acquire larger properties.
Radio Veritas Asia (RVA), a media platform of the Catholic Church, aims to share Christ.
