Be vessels of the Lord’s compassion and mercy—Philippine bishop

An official from the World Apostolic Congress on Mercy (WACOM) urged attendees at the 5th Asian Apostolic Congress to continue being vessels of the Lord's compassion and mercy towards others.

According to WACOM Episcopal Coordinator for Asia, Antipolo Bishop Ruperto Santos, devotees should embody what they have learned at the congress and express the Lord's mercy throughout the community.

"Our congress does not stop here; we will continue, we will share, and we will be truly the messengers of mercy," Santos said in an interview with Radio Veritas.

The bishop was overjoyed with the enthusiasm of the more than 3,000 Divine Mercy devotees who actively participated in five days of talks by various speakers.

Bishop Santos hopes that the devotees will take what they have learned, listened to, and cherished from the speeches, sharings, inputs, and immersions and apply it in their lives.

"There will be works in their hands that will translate into corporal acts of mercy. We will be his acts of mercy, his spirits of mercy, and will be living mercy to others," he said.

Meanwhile, in the homily by Diocese of Prosperidad Bishop-designate Ruben Labajo, he encouraged the devotees to become "mercy-naries" to achieve true world peace.

"May each one of us become not only ambassadors of Divine Mercy but eventually be transformed into the image of the messenger of Divine Mercy. And the image of Divine Mercy is an image of hope, an image of peace, an image of consolation," Labajo said.

Divine Mercy Philippines National Coordinator Fr. Prospero Tenorio thanked the Archdiocese of Cebu for warmly welcoming the AACOM delegates while also calling on parents to strengthen family prayer life and enhance their participation in the Eucharist.

"Prayer, especially inside the family, is a call for all of us to pray together again, especially the Eucharist as a thanksgiving and evangelization, calling parents to become evangelizers of God's mercy," Fr. Tenorio said over Radio Veritas.

Fr. Tenorio also announced that the sixth AACOM will take place in Singapore. The six-day congress concluded with a grand procession featuring images of St. John Paul II, St. Faustina Kowalska, and Divine Mercy. Bishop Santos led the closing mass at the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu.

One hundred seventy-four foreign delegates from Canada, Guam, India, Lithuania, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore are among the more than three thousand delegates.
