Bangladesh Bishops' Conference makes historic visit to Rajshahi Diocese during Jubilee Year

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of Bangladesh, joined by Monsignor Abel Toglo, made a historic Jubilee Year pilgrimage to the Diocese of Rajshahi from March 7 to 9.

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of Bangladesh embarked on a historic pilgrimage to the Diocese of Rajshahi, accompanied by Monsignor Abel Toglo, the newly appointed Secretary of the Vatican Embassy, marking a significant occasion in the Jubilee year from March 7 to 9.

The faithful of Rajshahi warmly welcomed the church leaders, underscoring the spiritual significance of this journey, which was also attended by Bishop Gervas Rozario of Rajshahi.

The pilgrimage focused on visiting the religious villages of Rajshahi Diocese, located in the districts of Joypurhat and Naogaon.

This three-day journey, which began with the delegation's arrival at the Rajshahi Bishop's residence on the evening of March 7, sought to deepen the connection between the faithful and the bishops, celebrating the Jubilee Year.

Bishop Rozario expressed his joy at the presence of Monsignor Toglo, calling the visit a "great journey" for both the Bishops’ Conference and the Catholic community of Rajshahi, Joypurhat, and Naogaon.

"Rajshahi diocese is blessed today," Rozario said, highlighting the profound significance of this event.

The first stop of the pilgrimage took place at Saint John Bosco Church in Lokhikul on March 8, where the faithful greeted the bishops with flowers, songs, and a vibrant welcome dance.

Archbishop Bejoy N. D’Cruze of Dhaka shared his appreciation, saying, "We bishops are pleased with the sincerity of Pastor Father Emil Ekka. May people come to know Jesus through your work."

Following the visit to Lokhikul Church, the bishops proceeded to a site near Khonjonpur Parish on the outskirts of Joypurhat, where the new bishop’s residence is under construction for the future diocese.

As the delegation continued their journey to Chandpukur Christ the King of Peace Church, they were met with warm hospitality from the priests, nuns, and parishioners, who greeted them with the traditional Santali dance and floral tributes. Parish priest Bablu Corraya delivered a welcome speech, sharing the history of Christ the King of Peace Church.

Bishop Paul Panen Kubi of Mymensingh diocese and Secretary of the Bangladesh Bishops' Conference expressed heartfelt gratitude, saying, "I sincerely thank Bishop Rozario for organizing this pilgrimage. It has been a unique gift from God, and I feel fortunate to visit these religious villages in Naogaon and Joypurhat. May God’s blessings descend on Rajshahi Diocese."

Monsignor Toglo, marking his first visit to Bangladesh outside of Dhaka, expressed deep appreciation for the pilgrimage, saying, "I am pleased to be in Rajshahi Diocese. Through this visit, I have seen the realities and struggles of Christians here. I feel incredibly lucky to witness this experience, as no other bishops of Bangladesh will ever be treated this way again."

This remarkable pilgrimage has left a lasting impact on the faithful of Rajshahi, highlighting the deep connection between the Church leadership and the communities they serve. The visit also reinforced the message of unity and faith during the Jubilee Year.
