Pope Francis stands in prayerful solidarity with Los Angeles wildfire victims
Pope Francis has expressed his heartfelt solidarity with the people of Los Angeles, California, as devastating wildfires continue to claim lives and destroy communities.
"My heart is with the people of Los Angeles," the pope said during his Wednesday General Audience, acknowledging the immense suffering caused by the fires.
He prayed for the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patron of the Americas, asking that the residents remain witnesses of hope through their renowned diversity and creativity.
In a telegram to Archbishop José Gomez of Los Angeles, the Holy Father conveyed his deep sadness over the loss of life and widespread destruction.
He assured the affected communities of his spiritual closeness, entrusted the deceased to God's mercy and offered his blessing as a source of consolation and strength.
The fires have claimed at least 28 lives, destroyed over 15,000 structures, and scorched approximately 63 square miles.
