In his Angelus address, published on February 22, 2025, while recovering from double pneumonia at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital, Pope Francis urged deacons worldwide to continue their ministry with joy, love, and courage, becoming true signs of God’s mercy and compassion.

Pope Francis urged deacons to “continue with joy your apostolate and – as today’s Gospel suggests – to be a sign of a lovethat embraces all, that transforms evil into good and generates a fraternal world” in his Angelus address.

Reflecting on the Jubilee of Deacons underway at the Vatican, where several new deacons were ordained at St. Peter’s Basilica, Pope Francis praised their dedication to proclaiming the Word and serving in charity.

He urged them not to be afraid to “risk love” in their ministry, bringing God’s mercy and compassion to all.

The Pope also expressed his gratitude to the Dicasteries for the Clergy and Evangelization for organizing the Jubilee and sent warm greetings to the newly ordained deacons and all participants.

Providing a health update, Pope Francis noted, “I continue confidently with my stay at the Gemelli Polyclinic, receiving the necessary treatments,” adding humorously, “and rest is also part of the therapy!”

He extended heartfelt thanks to the doctors and healthcare workers at Gemelli Hospital for their care, not only for him but for all patients, highlighting their dedication and compassion.

The Holy Father concluded his message by encouraging the faithful to continue praying for his recovery while urging deacons to serve joyfully and courageously, becoming true signs of God’s love in the world.
