On September 2, after celebrating Mass in St. Peter's Square, Pope Francis opened the second session of the General Assembly of the Synod with a solemn call for prayer and fasting on October 7, marking the first anniversary of the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Addressing the Synod participants, the Pope reflected on the current global situation, stating, "In this dramatic hour of our history, while the winds of war and the fires of violence continue to devastate entire peoples and nations," the Christian community is called to "put itself at the service of humanity." His words underscored the Church's commitment to peace and solidarity in a world still marred by conflict.

The Holy Father also announced that on October 6, the eve of the anniversary, he would offer "a heartfelt petition to the Virgin" for peace and invited every member of the Synod to join him in this act of devotion.

Calling for unity and spiritual guidance, Pope Francis urged, “Let us walk together, listen to the Lord, and be guided by the breeze of the Spirit.”

He encouraged the Synod's participants—including over 400 priests, bishops, cardinals, and lay delegates—to gather at the Marian Basilica to recite the Rosary for peace.

The Pope’s call to action during the feast of the Guardian Angels serves as a poignant reminder of the Church’s ongoing mission to foster peace and hope in times of turmoil, inviting all to pray for an end to violence and war—with Inputs from Vatican News
